To Buy or Not to Buy … an Essay?

An old Chinese proverb teaches a life lesson that you cannot ignore:
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”
From the perspective of the learner, there is a choice to be made: Should I always depend on receiving a fish or should I learn how to fish?
How to deal with some choices in life
When you are faced with this kind of choice, ask yourself two questions:
- Will the easier way be to have this thing done for me and to have immediate satisfaction?
- Will it be better to learn how to do this thing and have the satisfaction of knowing how to do it for the rest of my life?
If whatever needs to be done is something that you do not care to fuss over and it can be done more quickly and efficiently by someone else, you will take the first option.
If it is something that would be better for you to learn because it will be useful to do it without help in the future, you will choose the second way.
These are genuine choices. It is not a matter of one being right and the other wrong.
If there is a difference, it will be seen in the quality of satisfaction.
With the first option, the satisfaction is temporary; it is for the moment, for an immediate need. The same situation might occur again, and it will require the same solution.
With the second option, full satisfaction will probably come later. After a period of learning, with the pains of trial and error, you will develop the skill to do it yourself. The satisfaction in this will be permanent.
How to make sure that your choice brings long-term fulfillment
There is a third question that you could ask: Which of these two options will give me a sense of fulfillment that will be with me for a lifetime?
Although the answer is obvious and already contained in what was asked in the second question, you should pause for a moment and ask the third question, anyway, to be sure that you are making the right choice.
The quality of life is improved by what you do to help yourself for life, not by what you get to satisfy an immediate need.
If you seek satisfaction by the easiest means with no effort on your part, long-term fulfillment will be lacking.
If you seek satisfaction by means of good effort on your part, long-term fulfillment will be evident. This is something you have done, something you have striven to accomplish. This is your work.
This is implied by the Chinese proverb quoted above.
How to make the right choice in the matter of essay writing
In the matter of writing essays for school and college assignments, there is an easy way to do things.
There are teams of professional writers on the Internet to whom you can turn for help. Tell them what you need, and they will write an essay and sell it to you. You then present this as your work.
What have you gained? You have the satisfaction of meeting an immediate need, but is there any long-term fulfillment?
There is no personal accomplishment. It is not truly your own work. This is not far removed from purchasing a degree from a diploma mill.
Why should you rely on others to make up for your chosen inability? Doesn’t this breathe the same air as plagiarism?
It is far better to apply yourself to the art of writing, to receive instruction, to improve in due course, and to become proficient for a lifetime of producing your own work. Isn’t it better to be honest and to present what is truly yours?

While it is true that its always better to learn to fish and than cook it yourself instead of asking your chef to do the work for you. However education today has become a business. Universities don’t bother to understand if a student is actually capable of writing a coherent essay himself. They are looking at admitting as many foreign students as possible so they can grow their business.

ESL students who have never written an essay prior to joining universities in the US are left with little choice.
